With the days getting longer and the air turning warmer, it’s that wonderful time of year to refresh and decorate your home for spring. Transitioning your home decor from the cold hues of winter to the bright, fresh palette of spring doesn’t have to be a daunting task.
Whether you’re a home decorating newbie, a lover of all things DIY, or simply a homeowner looking to revive your interior, these engaging decorating tips will not only revitalize your space but also invite the feeling of the spring season indoors.
Start with Spring Cleaning
The first step in prepping your home for spring is to bid adieu to the remnants of winter and a good spring cleaning. Clearing out the clutter accumulated over the cold months gifts us not just a tidy home, but the clarity and blank canvas needed to invite new life and decor into our homes.
Start by quieting your home. This is where you remove all the winter decor, the heavy blankets, and anything that has piled up in corners or on tables. Once the clutter and signs of winter are gone, now you are ready to clean.
Start with the main living space like the living room, dining room, or kitchen. Give these spaces a deep cleaning by wiping down surfaces, dusting, and vacuuming. If it is nice enough outside, consider washing the windows. I know my windows are always ready for washing after the long dark winters. I cringe when the sun shines, as it shows how dirty the windows are.
Once those spaces are clean and you have more time move on to cleaning the primary bedroom, extra bedrooms, and bathrooms. Clean these areas even if you don’t decorate them for spring. This just makes you feel great and gets your house ready for spring.
Now that your home is clean, leave it this way for a week or maybe even 2. This will allow the space to sit quietly and it gives you time to decide what you need to add to the space for the spring decorations. This is more than cleaning; it’s a fresh start, a testament to the new season with new beginnings.

Use Lighter Fabrics for Spring Decorating
Picture your living room, once cocooned in cozy winter wraps, now blooming with light fabric throws and decorative pillows. Tuck away those heavy drapes and replace them with lighter, breezier textiles. Think sheer curtains that allow the natural light to stream in, or floral prints for an instant spring vibe. Ditch the dark-colored throw blankets and swap them for lightweight, pastel throws that exude a relaxed and inviting feel. Consider switching out your entrance throw rugs for lighter or brighter colors and fabrics.
Spring Decorating with Flowers, Greenery, and touches of Nature
Bringing the outdoors in is a surefire way to celebrate spring. Fresh flower arrangements and greenery instantly liven up any room. A glass vase filled with tulips, daffodils, or your favorite seasonal blooms on your kitchen table or fireplace mantel can be a daily source of joy.
A simple statement is bringing in budding branches from your yard and adding them to colorful glassware. Make the branches as big or as small as you need to fill an open shelf or coffee table space. This is perfect for those with a small budget.
If you’re committed to sustainability, consider a potted plant like snake plants, peace lilies, or aloe vera, which not only add a splash of green but also help improve indoor air quality. Additionally, consider creating your own terrariums or vertical gardens to add a personal, nature-inspired touch to your space.
Add a Pop of Spring Color to your Spring Decor
The spring season is the perfect time to add a pop of color, and your home’s decor should be no exception. Swap out your winter decorative pillow covers with ones in pastel shades or bright colors. A new area rug with a vibrant design or a splash of color can anchor a room and draw the eye. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, consider a fresh coat of paint on an accent wall in a playful spring color like white mint or moon mist. Or consider using a removable floral wallpaper. Remember, the key is to infuse your home with the colors of the season, not overwhelm it. Stick to a color palette that complements your existing decor for a cohesive result.
Adding in Seasonal Decor Items
Consider adding seasonal decor items to your everyday decor staples. This is a great way to give your decor staples a fresh look. Remember to keep the seasonal decor to a minimum. You just want to add touches of seasonal items without removing your core decor staples.
Sometimes, a little goes a long way. A delicate, spring-themed centerpiece on your dining table—a nest with painted easter eggs, a bowl of lemons, or a rustic wooden tray filled with bright birds’ nests or an easter bunny, can be the perfect touch your room needs to signify the change in season.
Restyle Vignettes
Move around and restyle your table decor and the mantle to give your home a fresh new look. Sometimes changing and moving your home decor objects can give your home a different perspective and look. Since my mantle is the main focal point in my open-concept living area, I like to change the decor staples on my mantle each season or at least halfway through the year.
I typically use the larger objects somewhere else in my house so I don’t have to continually store items in the garage on my storage shelves.
As you can see from the above 2 photos I keep my same DIY Artwork, and I just move them to different areas of my living space.
Switch out Art and Prints
Switching out your regular art or photo frames for prints that reflect the lushness of spring—landscapes, florals, or cheerful animals—also beautifully captures the essence of the season. Simple, subtle changes can have a significant impact on the atmosphere of your home, breathing lightness and energy into your living space.
TIP: Keep different seasonal prints in the same frame. This allows you to easily switch out the print without having to store the photo elsewhere.
SCENTS OF SPRING
A room’s ambiance is not solely defined by its appearance. The scent plays a significant role in setting the mood. Incorporating the right scents can amplify the seasonal feel of your home. Swap out those warm, spicy fragrances for fresh, light scents like lavender, jasmine, or citrus. Consider using diffusers, potpourri, sachets, or linen sprays to infuse your space with these invigorating springtime aromas. Remember, the trick is to keep the scents subtle and refreshing, so they complement your decor without overpowering it.
Spring Entryway Updates
The entryway is your home’s first impression—a prelude to the indoor sanctuary you’ve created. Welcome spring by updating this space with a new doormat, perhaps one with a whimsical floral or nature-inspired pattern. Hang a seasonal spring wreath on your front door crafted from fresh flowers, faux flowers, or faux greenery.
Ensure that this area is well-lit with a festive spring lamp or a brightly colored candle lantern. A clean and inviting entryway sets the tone for the rest of your home, ready for the season’s warmth, both in temperature and ambiance.
BEDROOM REFRESH
Your bedroom is a sanctuary, and it, too, deserves to be adorned in the spirit of spring. An easy way to revitalize this space is by swapping your winter bedding for lighter options. Opt for breathable cotton or linen sheets with a high thread count for that luxurious yet comfortable feel. Layer with a lightweight quilt or a floral duvet cover for an added touch. Scatter a few decorative pillows in complimentary spring shades for a coordinated look. Don’t forget to switch out your winter pajamas for a set in soft, pastel colors – because spring is about renewal, from the inside out.
