Have you ever thought about buying kitchen cabinets online? Like most people, I am sure you have your reasons why you decided not to hit the buy button. I shopped both online and local for the kitchen cabinets in our guest suite. I ended up buying online over the box store for many reasons and I want to share my entire experience with you. I am hoping that my experience will help others in making decisions on buying kitchen cabinets online.
Let me start by saying I am a visual person. I need to see and understand how a design or layout is going to look. This is the #1 reason that my online buying process was a success. The easy and personal design layout was the #1 reason that made buying cabinets online so easy.
These are the pictures I sent to my designer from Willow Lane Cabinetry. Along with a brief idea and description of the look I wanted in the kitchen. She sent me a detailed questionnaire so she could get more details and measurements.
This was the first design layout I received. I thought I wanted to do open shelving and white cabinets. As I began to shop for flooring and looked at my local stores for cabinets, I decided white was not the look I wanted. I thought white would show wear and tear quicker in a rental than something with color.
I switched to a darker cabinet and added uppers as I decided that long term adding the upper cabinets was the best decision for the kitchen. We also created this space with the idea that if we needed it for an in-law suite, that upper cabinets would give more storage and less clutter. My designer asked questions about the color of appliances and floors so I could see my entire design decisions in her layout. It is amazing to see how close the computer-generated design plans look compared to the real kitchen in the below photos.
#2 reason for buying kitchen cabinets online was the cost savings.
As we began to add upper cabinets, the price was getting higher and higher. I compared the prices from Willow Lane Cabinetry and my local big box stores and found the savings were bigger online for the same layout with all the trim details.
#3 reason for buying kitchen cabinets online was time savings
Every time I made a change to the design, my designer would work on the changes and send me the updated layout, while I went about my business. Every time I made a change at my local box store, I had to make an appointment and see the designer. This took time out of my schedule and I had to go to the store.
#4 reason for buying kitchen cabinets online was the convenience of shopping.
Once I determined the cabinet color, I ordered a sample door to see the color and the style to make sure this was the final decision. I was able to take this sample door with me everywhere to pick floors, appliances, countertops, and paint. The most my big box would do was let me carry a sample door inside their store. They did not have samples to take with you. That is fine if you plan on buying everything from that one store.
The ordering process was so simple. Once we finalized the design, every item I needed for my kitchen was placed in my shopping cart. All the details you would not think about when it comes to the trim and crown molding, they even sent a touch-up kit. I went through my detailed size layout and the shopping cart to double-check the order and I hit order. It was that simple.
Now, let’s talk about the delivery. I was really nervous about the delivery process. They do give you a big checklist of do’s and don’ts and a detailed video to watch about accepting delivery. Yes, they only take it off the truck, you have to have the manpower to move it inside your garage or home. Luckily, the driver was able to back up the truck, lower my pallet and wheel it into my garage. Not one thing was damaged and the delivery process was smooth. Outside of the fact it was the coldest day, with -5 degrees the day of my delivery.
I absolutely love the kitchen and the quality of the cabinets. I would order my kitchen cabinets online again and go through this entire process because it was easy and convenient. Have you been through a kitchen remodel or ordered your cabinets online? Leave me questions and I will gladly answer your questions about ordering kitchen cabinets online.

Thank you for sharing your experience and glad It’s wonderful. Buying cabinets online at first was a bit scary. My experienced working with a remote designer was very easy, and in many ways more convenient. They layout and finish are top notch.
