Do you have a hard time figuring out what to call your decorating style? It used to be so simple because there were only a handful of categories. Now with today’s trends, you have so many different names of a design style and a lot of those names pretty much mean the same thing, it gets confusing. Well, I am sharing my modern transitional living room design with touches of vintage. How do you like all those descriptions?

I have always struggled with what to call my design style and now that we moved and have a different style house from the last one, I am transitioning my style again. Thank goodness, I get to practice on the Airbnb space before taking on our portion of the house.
This buffet and gallery wall of frames were at the old house. I had just completed the living room in the old house and we moved, so I was very happy to repurpose the look into the living room of the guest suite. The plant stand and the buffet are the touches of vintage in the living room. I gave the buffet a modern look by painting it and this is where the term modern transitional decor comes into my style.
I was looking for the perfect accent chairs to go in the space in front of the Murphy bed. I tried a few chairs and they were all too short and small in comparison to the size of the sofa. When I spotted these lovely green chairs from Wayfair, I knew they would be the perfect fit with the other green accents in the living room space.
I had to get a little creative in the Murphy Bed nook. It had a drop ceiling which is needed because all the electric and pipes are running in this area. I did the same technique from my old office where I made the drop ceiling to look like tin tiles. The mirror in the background covers up an electrical panel, which was a perfect way to cover up the panel without anyone knowing.
This is a before picture of the guest suite. This picture came from the listing photos.

I kept the decor to a minimal. I have been in plenty of short term rentals and it would drive me crazy to have to move all the clutter just to use the table. I wanted a welcoming feel without the clutter and simple decor statements. I think the modern transitional living room design has been a hit as I get so many compliments on my reviews on Airbnb and also in the guest book.
