What is loud, outdated and overlooked in most homes?  We use this item every day and take it for granted.  We typically do not consider upgrading it until it totally stops working.  You know the answer because you read the title to my post, it is a garage door opener.  Let me tell you about a Genie Garage Door Opener with Smartphone App.

This was a much-needed upgrade to our house.  Both of our old garage door openers were listed in the home inspection report as working improperly.  The sensors for both garage doors were not working at all, so this means they would not stop if something crossed the sensor.  One of the doors would not stop when you pushed the button, and you needed to wait for it to fully open or close and since it would not stop, you could not leave the door partially open. 

 

We choose 2 different garage door openers based on the needs for each space.  

The upper garage we decided on the Genie Mach-Force.   This opener is Genie’s fastest and most powerful opener, with speeds 2 times faster than other drive systems.  This is our main garage door and we wanted something to open fast.  I really needed a fast garage door opener with a stick shift and having a driveway on a slight incline.  We are very happy with this choice and it is still a quiet opener, especially compared to what was there before.  The installer told me that the model we had was at least 20+ years old, so this was probably the one they installed when the house was built in 1996. 

We choose the Genie Model 3120 for the lower garage door.   This is Genie’s newest professional line opener that offers the integrated Aladdin Connect.  We chose this opener for how quiet it operates.  The opener has Soft Start & Stop Control which allows your door to begin and end its movement smoothly instead of abruptly whenever you operate it. This creates less noise and less wear on the door.  Since we have a bedroom located above my workshop garage and Mr. DD’s office right next to the workshop, we needed something quiet.  This opener is so quiet, it surpasses all expectations for a soft opener.

I know the subject of garage door openers is not a fun room makeover but the Aladdin Connect feature makes the opener fun.   With the Aladdin Connect, you can open and monitor your door from anywhere.  You download the app to your phone and you now have access to your garage door opener, as it works with your home’s WiFi.  You can receive notifications on your phone and also open your door with your smartphone.  This is a cool feature as you can let others into the garage when you are not at home and monitor while on vacation.  The other great feature about receiving notifications when the door has been open is you know what time your teenager or husband came home as long as they are parking in the garage and opening the door.  Just in case you need it!   

 

  You can purchase just the Aladdin Connect and it is compatible with most garage door openers. 

 

I also added the Keyless entry pad system on each door, in case one of the boys needed to enter the garage or if I did not have my phone to open it from the outside.  We have used this many times and I am very glad that we added these openers as well.  

I am very happy with the choices I made for both of the openers.  It still amazes me how quiet my workshop garage door is when I open it.  I have asked Mr. DD several times, did you hear that and his response is always no.
