Today I have decided to set a personal goal. I have traveled to many states in this great country of ours. As I was reflecting on my travels, I listed the states that I have not visited yet. I wrote them down and I have 17 states on my list yet to visit. So here it is, my goal. To visit all 50 states before I turn 50. Wow, what an accomplishment that will be, to say that I have visited all 50 states before I turned 50. So I have to tell you then, that I have 5 years, 9 months and 13 days to meet this goal. Ouch, I just shared my age. For those of you that don’t want to do the math, I am 44 years young.
I shared this goal with my husband as he came home for the evening, of course, he is a big part of this goal as he is my travel companion. I also informed him that he can also meet this goal before he turns 50. He has 1 year 9 months and 11 days, except he has only 4 states. So I began to map out how many trips this will take to visit the remaining 17 states. I quickly figured out 6 different trips. I have thought nonstop about these travel plans, on which ones to drive to and which ones to fly and rent a car. Here is a Map for those of you that are curious to see which states they are.
Here is a link to the visited state’s map for those of you that would like to create your own map. http://www.visitedstatesmap.com/
Here is the list to make it easy:
Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Arkansas, Louisiana, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.
My husband’s states are Alaska, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi.
I will be keeping you all updated on all our travel plans as we begin to cross the states off the list to meet OUR goal.
I would love insights and information from those of you that have been to these great states or live there.
The first step is to set a goal, the second is to write it down and the third step is to share it with others. I am doing the second and the third with you all now. My goal is set, now that I have shared it with everyone.
Here is to living life and setting goals!

I just came across your blog, have enjoyed reading thru it and your projects. Love your goal. I didn’t make it before 50, but have only 13 states left. I live in Idaho, the south is quite different from the north but think you would love either. Washington we love to visit Seattle, food is wonderful if you love seafood but our favorite is the San Juan islands! Oregon, has to be the coast, We just got back from an 11 state road trip, only 2 were new to us. Was a great trip! Husbands are the best travel mates! Have fun! We have made a slight dent on foreign travel would love to do more there too! Will continue to check on your blog in the future!

Good luck with your goal. I feel lucky; I’m 28 and have visited over forty states.

Derek, you are blessed to have traveled to forty+ states and to only be 28. After I travel all 50 states, I will be working on my travel bucket list. This list will be starting on foreign travel sites.
